Gateway Center Policies

Log In Upon Arrival! You must always log in upon entering the Gateway Center to see a tutor or utilize any resource, no matter how quick you might intend your visit to be. Ask a Gateway Center staff member for assistance if needed.

Be Prepared for Your Appointment!Bring your classroom materials with you, especially any early drafts or description of the assignment for which you want support. Consider whether you have specific questions to be sure you can get exactly the support you need. If you need documentation for your professor, be sure to bring it with you or know what it is. Finally, bring your patience and positive attitude; tutoring is a process and you are welcome to return for more support!

Think You Might Miss an Appointment? If you are more than 15 minutes late to a 50-minute appointment, you will be considered a “no-show.” If you miss three scheduled appointments, you will not be able to make another appointment using TutorTrac until you speak with a Gateway Center administrator.

Need to Cancel an Appointment?Log in to http://tutortrac.pccc.edu using your Portal Username and Password. Your scheduled appointment is listed on the first page. Click the small X next to the scheduled appointment and follow the on-screen instructions. Appointments must be canceled sooner than one hour before its scheduled time.

Tell Us How We've Done! After visiting with us (preferrably before you leave), we invite you to complete the Gateway Center Exit Survey. Your responses are completely anonymous and will help us continue to understand PCCC student needs. Look for the "Exit Survey" tab at the top of this LibGuide now!

  2. Live Tutoring where you can meet online with a tutor in a one-on-one tutoring sessions using a fully interactive, virtual online environment.
  3. Offline Questions where you can leave a specific question for an eTutor who will respond within 48 hours.

Schedule an Appointment or Drop-In!!

The Gateway Center provides free tutoring for students enrolled in courses that are being redesigned and piloted by faculty in conjunction with the Gateway Center. Students are welcome to drop-in to seek support, but students are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment with the subject-specific tutor in order to guarantee uninterrupted attention.

The instructions below are provided as a guide to help you schedule appointments in TutorTrac.

  1. Go to http://tutortrac.pccc.edu
  2. Login using your Portal Username and Password.
  3. Click on Search Availability.
  4. Choose the Center (Gateway Center) where you would like to visit a tutor, if available.
  5. Choose your Course Section (ex., EN 101-M01)
  6. Choose the Location for your appointment (Paterson, Passaic, Wanaque)
  7. Click Search
  8. Make note of the types of time slots that are available: Green = 1-on-1; Yellow = Group; Blue = Drop-in. (Drop-in times are available for walk-in sessions only and cannot be booked. Choosing to walk-in instead of making an appointment carries the risk that the tutor is already seeing a student or has been asked to step away and help students in-class.)
  9. Click on the time slot that works best for your needs.
  10. Click save on the appointment window.
  11. Check your email for an appointment confirmation and follow any included instructions.

If you do not receive an appointment confirmation by email or if you would like to convert this appointment to an online session, please email us at gcaa@pccc.edu. Visit the Online Tutoring tab on this LibGuide for instructions on setting up and using Blackboard Collaborate for online tutoring.
