Search Strategies

1. Define your topic: At issue is the constitutional "right to bear arms" as opposed to the concerns over the lives lost by gun violence. Questions to ask: Does the second amendment support  today's gun laws? Does gun control lower violent crime? Do people kill because they have access to guns or because of their attitudes and beliefs? Why do people want guns? Is it only to kill?
2. Search for information on the Library web page
→Search using key terms and synonyms to find an overview. Good places to start:  Online Catalog or GALE Opposing Viewpoints Database
Gun control
Gun control laws
Firearms legislation
→For more advanced searches you will use related concepts to narrow your search or combine terms together in databases such as  Academic Search Complete. For example:
Concealed weapons
Firearms ownership and laws
Gun control pros and cons
Gun control debate
Gun violence and legislation
Handguns
Right to bear arms
School shootings
Self defense, self defence (British spelling)
Second amendment rights
